On the occasion of April 2, International Autism Awareness Day, ‘PUNARBASA’, an organization working for therapy services and the empowerment of persons with disabilities, celebrated the day with great enthusiasm. The programme was organized under the guidance of the Chief Advisor of PUNARBASA, Biraja Routray.
The event was graced by the Block Social Security Officer(Hqrs) Shri Sudhanshu Shekhar Behura as the Chief Guest. Other distinguished guests included Dr. Sujata Bhatt, Senior Professor of the Department of Social Science, Tulsi Women’s College; Professor Ranjit Das; eminent journalist and social scientist Alyal Bala; and Speech and Hearing Specialist Chandan from the District Headquarters Hospital, who attended as a Resource Person.
During the awareness session, Gunjansmita Behera made a significant contribution by discussing the various symptoms of autism, different aspects of the diagnostic process, and the unique characteristics of the condition. She highlighted that autism is a neurodevelopmental condition in which children may appear physically normal but often display unusual developmental patterns and behavioural characteristics. She emphasized that timely identification, early intervention, proper training, and therapy can greatly benefit children with autism.
Representatives of the Red Cross Unit of Tulsi Women’s College, Kendrapara, also participated in the awareness programme. From the institution, Jyoti Ranjan Nayak, Nrusingha Tripathi, Sanjib Kumar Jena, Rachita Jena, Ranjan Swain, and Khirod played important roles in the overall management of the programme.
Finally, the vote of thanks was delivered by Assistant Secretary Bansidhar Mohanty.
