CELEBRATION OF WORLD CEREBRAL PALSY DAY on 06.09.2024:
A Ray of Hope under the dark Clouds of Cerebral Palsy
Awareness and intervention are two tools through which the progress and severity of cerebral palsy can be checked. Around 17million people around world are suffering from cerebral palsy. This neuromuscular disorder impairs the new born from normal mobility.
In India due to lack of awareness and also scarcity of Rehabilitational Therapeutic Intervention the children having Cerebral Palsy mostly deprived from the possibilities of inclusion in the mainstream society. Starting from medicinal intervention to through multiple therapeutic interventional preventive steps the alarming growth of Cerebral palsy can be stopped. To spread awareness and the interventional role of therapy Punarbasa today on 6th September organised an awareness cum sensitization program on the eve of Cerebral Palsy Day.
In the first session two presentation on the topic -
1-"Cerebral palsy: dissecting the causes and prognosis " presented by physiotherapist Rachita Jena
2-"Rehabilitational challenges and therapeutic intervention" by Occupational Therapist Gunjansmita Behera.
The meeting was conducted by the Founder cum Advisor of the organization Dr. Biraja Routray. On this occasion District Child Welfare Committee Chairman Smt. Swagatika Patra joined as Hon'ble chief Guest. Among other distinguished Guest District Child Protection Officer Sj Bijaya ketana Sahoo, Former District Social Security Officer Sj. Pravash ch. Das and Noted Social worker Sj. Biraja prasad Pati appreciated the Role, contribution and supreme sacrifices by parents of Cerebral Palsy children. Emphasizing the importance of awareness in preventing the various causes of this devastating type of disability they reiterated the vital role of awareness program in block and GP level also to reach out the rural community.
In the interactive session, mothers of Cerebral Palsy children narrated their untold story of struggle, helplessness, difficulties and hope in nurturing their differently abled children. They also expressed the visible changes of their special kids after undergoing therapy at Punarbasa for years. Counsellor Sanjib Jena, members Swapnansu Kumar Das and Assistant Secretary of the organization Bansidhar Mohanty along with other support staff of Punarbasa assisted in conducting this awareness cum sensitization program.
